How are limousines built?

Limousine

When you are looking at how a limousine is built there are several things that you should keep in mind.  From the smallest car, to the largest car on the market there are dozens of cars that can be converted to a stretch limousine with some work, effort, skill and a great body shop.  From a tiny low rider gone stretch to a large SUV turned into monster luxury car making a limousine is not a task for those who are inexperienced.

  • Your first step is going to be finding what is called the donor car.  This is the vehicle that you are going to use to make your custom limousine.
The vehicle that you choose is going to determine the type of stretch limousine you have in the end.  This means there is nothing you can do with a Lincoln Town Car to turn it into a SUV limousine.  If you want the end result to be a SUV you must seek that out initially.
  • Your next step is to actually remove the entire interior of the vehicle and cut the vehicle behind the front doors. While this is going on, all of the windows are removed from the vehicle, and the entire vehicle is prepared for painting.
The vehicle itself is placed onto what is called a jib, this is a steel frame that allows the vehicle to be supported while the work is being done so that the vehicle does not move, and also ensures that the vehicle is perfectly aligned to allow for ease of installing the additional components.
  • Your next step would be to insert the steel frame that allows the vehicle to be stretched as well as add on the frame, the roof and even the body parts that have been constructed according to the total length of the vehicle.
  • From here the vehicle is reconstructed and all of the joints are sanded and bonded to ensure that it looks proper and square as well as flush in all areas.  You do not want to leave imperfections.
  • Once the outside is constructed it is time to prepare the vehicle for painting.
  • Once the vehicle is painted it is then time to construct the interior and ensure that all seating, air conditioning, mirrors, lights and electrical needed are installed properly.  The side panels are installed and the flooring is installed as well.
At this point, it is time for the windows to be inserted back in the window openings, tires added to the vehicle and a final inspection does to ensure the vehicle is safe.
